My name is Josh McHugh and I’m an artist based in Southern California.  I’ve been an artist all my life. I now work primarily in leather.

I allow the materials to guide me in the creation of my products, and find myself inspired by the visual language and artistic traditions of ancient Celtic and Nordic culture and mythology.

INTENTION-INFUSED ART

I use Elder Futhark runes in the creation of my art. 

Elder Futhark is an ancient Germanic system of 24 symbols, dating back to the 1st Century. Each of these runes can have a number of different meanings. To the ancient user, the simple act of writing these runes had magical power. I take two or more of these runes and combine them into a binding rune. I create these binding runes to act as talismans of protection and goodwill for the wearer.
